Preschool

TOPICS

Peer assault (bullying), assault by a stranger, assault by a known adult.

PEDAGOGY

Discussions, role plays and puppets, verbal and physical self-defense.

AGE GROUP

Children aged 4-5 years old.

STRATEGY

Introduction to the three rights (safe, strong, and free), adult support, peer support, assertiveness.

FORMAT

Three 45-minute sessions with groups of 15 students or less.

Details

Workshop offered to adults before presentations offered to children . The teacher stays in the classroom during the workshop.

Elementary

90-minute workshop offered over two periods

Adaptation of the program is also available for welcoming, language, and other specialized classes.

Kindergarten and grade one complete the workshop in two sessions on consecutive days. There is a short review for the students in kindergarten and grade one on the second day.

The teacher stays in the classroom during the workshop.

Workshop offered to adults before workshops offered to students (one for school staff and one for school parents). This information session includes a description of the workshops and our approach to prevention.

TOPICS

Mobilization, power to act, values motivating our actions.

STRATEGY

  • Broaden and deepen their recognition of aggression.
  • Broaden their perception of the role that each can play in an assault.
  • Evaluate their actions and decisions, and their impact on their lives and those of others.
  • Think about their power and how to use it to prevent assault.

FORMAT

90-minute workshop offered over two periods.

AGE GROUP

Grades 5 and 6 for student who have already received CAP.

PEDAGOGY

Discussions, role plays, simulations and readings.

Details

The Montreal Assault Prevention Centre created this program in 2002 to meet a need expressed by schools.

The teacher stays in the classroom  during the workshop.

This workshop is inspired by the same philosophy of “empowerment” used in all our programs. Based on what CAP animators have observed over the years , the workshop looks at other social situations and places where children can suffer or commit certain forms of aggression.
